Typing excuses I'm too coward to speak. Wretched dog. Broken ribcage. Avoid at all costs. If I kill myself now, does the bad wolf win? And if I starve him out - and cancer wins instead - what's the difference? I'm not brave. Just too stupid to see what's coming. Hooks in. Drag me down. Take my back. Choke me out.
3.
Tell me about your mother when she was young. Do you remember her face? On the other side of your cage? With a mandate and a badge. With a warrant and a gun. I file and sharpen poisoned fangs. I come to feast on your young. A viper uninvited in your home. I hiss across your kitchen floor. Give up your tired, your poor, your masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your shore. Send these, the tempest-tossed to me - I drag them screaming out the door. The grandchildren of the greatest generation. Wearing the same jackboots that granddad brought home from Germany. Stomping on the hands that grip your children close.
4.
Eyes frozen shut. Mother's tongue scrubbed out. Lungs full of blood. Missing children. Unmarked graves. Sandblast your skin away. Starve out your family name. Now our mouths make the right sounds. Empty words on stolen ground. This land is make-believe. Whitewashed with a maple leaf.
5.
I am now but a vessel. Forced to bear fruit by the same men who rot it on the vine. Without friends or family. The midwives descend on me. To dispel Gilead within me by the law of man. Under a blood moon, a starless sky, We reclaim our bodies hereby. Night mothers keep their coven safe. Night mothers bring their sisters home.
